should have consented to transmit to me so patently dishonest
a presentation of the case.
I again request that the officers responsible for the
mismanagement and brutality of the police in this affair may
be severely punished and dismissed in disgrace as a danger to
the public; and I expect to receive a suitable expression of
regret for the unpardonable treatment meted out by them to an
innocent British subject.
Wit. respect to the arms and ammunition wrongfully
removed by the police from Mr. Teo Yee Swee's house, I have
the honour to inform you that he has my full permissionto hold
these articles. The reference in the police report to the
question whether or not he holds licences to possess firearms
is not understood, as, where British subjects are concerned,
the matter is not one that falls u ́der the jurisdiction of wie
Chinese authorities, I myself being the only authority com-
petent to grant or withhold permission for British subjects
to possess fir amrs.
I now renew my request tuat all the articles taken by
the police from Er. Teo Yee Swee's residence may be sent
forthwith to this Consulate, without further delay.
It is now twenty days ringe the robbery took place,
but I have so far heard nothing of the recovery of any of the
articles stolen by the robbers. In addition to the articles
enumerated in the list already sent to you, the following
articles have been found to have been stolen:
50 cartridges belonging to a lay Pigeon
2 pieces of clotin
Shooting Olub
1 pair rubber-soled shoes 1 mosquito curtain
